Blackpool Championship Show 2013 Critique

Heavy rain meant that judging took place in the wet weather ring and although the ring was not large, all exhibitors and dogs coped well and those hounds who could stride out well did so. I did not feel that any one fault or virtue dominated. This was a diverse entry in type, but although not quite as consistent as I would like, I was pleased with my line-up in both dogs and bitches.

Veteran D/B (3)

1. Robertsons Tartraven Rosaidh. 8 yr.old bitch. Lovely head, dark eyes with soft expression. Reachy neck, good depth of chest, would like just a little more spring of pastern. Well balanced angulation front and rear, good feet. Shown in good coat and condition. Moved very well in profile with correctly carried tail.

Puppy Dog (6)

1. Smith-Fenton and Doaks Rosslyn Reiver. Super well grown and upstanding 10 months rangy youngster. Eyes a shade light, good straight forelegs, feet could be a bit tighter. Strong neck of good length, good forequarters, still to deepen in chest, adequate spring of rib. Well angulated rear quarters, good coat. Just needs to firm up a bit in rear action going, but has a long easy stride in profile with correct tail carriage, presenting a well balanced overall outline. Very promising. BP.

2. Barrets Pharcourse Noah at Stranwith. Shorter in body and not quite the scope of one at present. Lovely head with dark eyes and soft expression. Neck of good length, flowing into good layback of shoulder, better feet than one. Good depth of chest, length of ribcage and sweep to hindquarters. Harsh coat and well carried tail.Just needs to settle in front coming, but has an easy stride in profile and has drive from the rear.

3. Greenhalghs Regalflight Poacher at Leksmoor.

Graduate Dog (2)

1. Taylors Kilbourne Usher to Ormanstar. At 22 months, still looking a bit raw, but a promising, shapely youngster. Pleasing head and expression, long elegant neck, good layback of shoulder. Shapely hindquarters, low set hocks, good tail carriage.Moved very well in profile with a ground covering stride and good head carriage.

2. Schaanning Lings Beardswood Quiver. Taller than one and well boned throughout. Good head, kind expression, strong neck of adequate length. Front angulation well balanced with rear, good depth of body and length of ribbing. Tends to ring his tail, but it is held correctly. Not quite the scope of stride in profile as one, but he was well muscled and sound.

Post Graduate Dog (3)

1. Andersons Gentiehun Desert Orchid. Pleasing overall shape and balance. Dark eye, kind expression, ears could be better. Elegant and strong neck, good feet. Would like a little more rise over loin, good width across hindquarters. Moved very well in profile and sound coming and going.

2. Baileys Breesfalt Jacob of Camuscuin NAF. Taller than one and shown in full coat. Good head shape, soft expression and neat ears. Deep brisket, straight front legs. Well ribbed back and shapely hindquarters. Tail carriage could be better andwould like firmer hind movement, but strode out well in profile.

Limit Dog (5)

Liked all three of these dogs.

1. Hawkins Kwaricott Corelli. Strong, upstanding, free moving and well muscled.Head could be a little more refined, strong and muscular neck. Good layback of shoulder and length and return of upperarm. Deep chest and good spring of rib. Can look a little flat in back, good length of ribcage and spring of rib. Good width across hindquarters, well muscled second thigh, low hocks, good feet. Sound coming and going and excels in profile action, covering the ground with ease and shown at just the right pace by his handler. CC.

2. Morton and Morgans Cotherstone Shot and Steel. Close up to one and presents a super curvy outline standing, perhaps just a shade short on the leg. Preferred his head to one and has a lovely dark eye and gentle expression. Strong neck, well angulated forequarters, lovely depth of chest, good length of ribcage and sweeping hindquarters. Shown in good coat and condition, just not quite the muscle tone of one. Front movement not as positive as one, but a free stride in profile and really uses his well let down hocks. ResCC.

3. Rhodes and Mortons Gentom Semper Fi.

Minor Puppy Bitch (1)

1. Taylors Pandora to Ormanstar NAF TAF. Very feminine and elegant 8 months.Strong, reachy neck, good forequarters and shapely underline. Lovely sweep to hindquarters, low set hocks, good coat. Feet could be better and a bit unsettled in front coming at this age. Moved with extension and drive and freely in profile. Best Puppy Bitch.

Puppy Bitch (3)

1. Barrets Stranwith Dimity. Another very shapely youngster, just a bit unsettled in the ring at first, which spoilt her outline standing. Lovely head, dark eye, good underline and topline. Balanced angulation front and rear, good width across stifle. Much more settled on the move, striding out well and keeping her topline with correct tail carriage.

2. Robertsons Chuilinn Whisper. Good head shape, dark eye with soft expression.Good forequarters, well knuckled feet. Good depth and width of chest , topline a little flat at present. Shapely hindquarters, low hocks. Still to settle coming, but moved well in profile. Not quite the overall scope of one standing and moving. More forward in development than her litter sister who was third in this class, but built along similar lines.

3. Robertsons Chuilinn Windflower.

Junior Bitch (3)

1. Baileys Greyflax Dear Prudence. Shapely overall outline, kind expression.Strong neck of good length, a little upright in forequarters, good feet. Good depth of chest, firm in topline. Moved a little close behind, but moved well in profile, with good head and tail carriage.

Graduate Bitch (4)

1. Davis’s Kilbourne Nimble at Marivon. Pleasing head shape, ears a bit heavy, kind expression. Strong neck of good length, good forequarters, lovely depth of chest and length of ribcage, strong and broad hindquarters, low hocks, good coat. Would like a more positive front action coming, but moves very well in profile with correct tail carriage.

2. Constantines Gentiehun Adelaide of Kaleginy. Very close up to one. Pleasing expression, although eye could be a shade darker, strong neck of good length, good forequarters. Deep enough in brisket, lovely sweep to hindquarters, hocks well let down, well knuckled feet, good coat. Just moved a little close behind and not quite the scope of one in profile, but has an easy stride and presents a good outline moving, with correctly carried tail.

3. Day and O’Briens Wickwar Wild Clover at Celticmoon.

Post Graduate Bitch (4)

1. Robertsons Chuilinn Magdalena. Well balanced front and rear and height to length ratio. Well furnished feminine head, adequate length of neck, good depth and width of chest, correct topline, well carried tail. Won this class on her easy, effortless and light profile movement.

2. Baileys Greyflax Just Peachy. Very elegant bitch, not as substantial as one.Dark eye and well carried ears. Good forequarters, straight front legs, feet could be a little tighter, good topline standing, shapely underline and hindquarters. Tends to flatten a bit in topline on the move and not quite the ease of movement of one in profile, but true coming and going.

3. Bonds Regalflight Civet.

Limit Bitch (4)

Three lovely bitches.

1. Finnett and Heathcotes Hyndsight Dreams Unwind. Dark eye, neat ears, good head shape, but lacks furnishings a bit. Strong neck of good length, well laid shoulder and length and return of upperarm. Good depth of chest, spring of rib and length of ribbing. Correct topline and wide hindquarters. Good feet and correct harsh coat. Shown in good muscular condition. She is an athletic and headstrong mover and can tend to be a bit untidy in front coming at first, but when collected has far reaching front action . Presents a super easy and free outline moving, using her strong and flexible hocks to best advantage. CC & BOB.

2. Doaks Rosslyn Qorrie Close up to one and slightly more substantial. Good layback of shoulder and length and return of upperarm. Lovely depth of chest, well ribbed back, broad hindquarters. Hocks well let down and shown in good coat. Sound coming and going and free moving in profile.Just preferred the topline of one standing and moving ResCC.

3. Morton and Morgans Cotherstone Duchenne.

Open Bitch (6)

1. Taylors Kilbourne Baccarat to Ormanstar. Not a big bitch, but very free moving and elegant, beautifully presented. Neat ears, soft expression, arched neck, well laid shoulder and length of upperarm. Correct topline, good tuck-up, feet could be a bit tighter. Strong hindquarters, low hocks well used on the move.

2. Doaks Rosslyn Plainsong. Different in type to one, more substantial and deeper in body. Lovely head, well angulated forequarters. Firm tuck-up, shapely and broad hindquarters. Not quite the flowing movement of one, but true coming and going.

3. Morgans Ladygrove Calamity Jane at Amiro.
